Today's lessons

4:27 p.m.

Today wasn’t quite so manic as yesterday, thankfully, but of course it’s not all over yet. I’ve learned a few things today, which is always a good thing.

1. The school library has different fine structures for late items for faculty/staff. YAY! The books I checked out today aren’t due until April 1st. Yes, that IS 2009. Hahahahaha….. Somehow, I don’t think I’ll turn them in late. Of course, if I do, then its 4 dollars a day. Eeek. And if somebody requests one of the books that I picked up, I have to turn it in within two weeks. No problems for me there.

2. The woman at the travel agency is a completely wonderfully kind lady. I had her on the phone yesterday to book 9 flights, to and from various parts of the country, and one international flight. It took 1 hour and 17 minutes to book all those, extending into what is commonly considered the lunch hour. And I had to book another flight today, to Germany. And she answered again. But then, the professor didn’t like his seats. So I had to change them. And she answered. Then the professor still didn’t like his seats, so I had to change them. And she answered again. And she only laughed at me a little. Especially when she asked where he WOULD like to be seated, and I said I’d prefer him in the cargo hold at this point. :) But we got him fixed up with some good seats so that’s alright. And honestly, if I was going to be stuck on a plane for over 8 hours, I’d want some good seats too!

3. Ummm, I guess I didn’t learn too much today after all.

We watched TV for a bit last night. I got stuck on the HGTV channel again, with what’s my home worth, and house hunters. Then I think I read for a bit. Then I filled out my open enrollment benefits form that is due today. Oh, and I got a card on Kongregate. And then I fell asleep on the gigantor bean bag chair. Ed woke me up around 11, and I played the DS until about midnight, then slept some more. And I woke up, and slept in the car on the way to work. So nice.

Tonight, will be reading, I think. Something relaxing. Or internet surfing/researching. We need to find someone to help us figure out what we should do to our house in order to get the best price. We want to reface our kitchen cabinets, but I’m not sure if that would be considered an “updated kitchen” or not. I mean, we have new floors, new appliances, and we’ll be getting at the very least, a new countertop, since ours is laminate and peeling up in various spots, or actually not quite, due to the magical properties of rubber cement, errr… some type of cementy product. We just need someone to tell us what is best. We have a walk in closet, but only one bathroom. Full bath, that is. I prefer having the closet, but maybe the majority of people would prefer another bathroom. Ed has a cousin that we might hire to help us with some of the major work, the deck and landscape stuff. But we’ll need to know if we do need to make that closet an extra bath.

I haven’t found any more gems like my house that got sold, unfortunately. Or perhaps fortunately. I’m hoping to find another house that will call to me just like that one. We shall see.

Yep, maybe I’ll do research tonight. I seriously need the new house to make room for all these books that I keep buying. I have 18 books here at work, that Ed doesn’t even know about. Perhaps someone needs to stage an intervention with me. I have quite an addiction to collecting books, half of which I’ll never read. Though I want to!

And I want another book like On the Beach, or Alas, Babylon. I love love LOVE post-apocalyptic, survival, sci fi, landing on a new planet and starting a colony, etc, type books. (Hint hint, nudge nudge, etc. I’m looking for suggestions here to make my summer reading list spectacular!) Some of my favorites so far, are definitely the two above, Anne McCaffrey’s Freedom series, John Ringo’s There Will be Dragons and succeeding books in the story, and crud, now my mind is a blank.

And I still have more than 5 months worth of New Scientist, Reason, Writers, and National Geographic magazines to read. I seriously need to make up a reading schedule to try and get all that in, and limit my chicklit addiction to one every week instead of five or so. :) I can do that.

I think.

I hope. :)

Did you read Anne McCaffrey's dinosaur planet series? In all, about 13 books, with a surprise at the end!! Also, Katherine Kurtz has three series that all relate to each other, which becomes apparent at the end... oops maybe I shouldnt have told you. The Deryni series might be hard to find; I got them all on half.com because most of them are out of print... There is always Stephen R Donaldson, and let's not forget Frank Herbert, shall we? The White Plague is awesome!!!

Aww, thanks Ellie! And super thanks, Chaos! I'm fairly certain I picked up one of the Kurtz books at the school library, but I left them in my office, so I can't remember. Trust me, they have OLD books there. And the Dinosaur planet series is one of the ones I didn't try with McCaffrey, mainly because of the title. *wonders if there really are dinosaurs in it* Oh, that and the Acorna ones. Ed tells me I'll like Dune, but I've not tried it, just to be obstinate. :) Perhaps its time...

Try I Am Legend. It is book, and in the copy we bought, it had that story as well as like ten other short stories. I liked most of them.
